Dear Bishop's Circle Member,

We thank you for your most generous support over the last year! As the Lenten season approaches, we are once again reminded that Christ is the light of our lives. Our greatest celebration, the Easter Vigil, opens by lighting a paschal candle from new fire and acclaiming the light of Christ. Jesus is the light! He helps us to see things. In fact, Jesus shows us the truth, warms and comforts us, guides us as we travel and helps us find a path to our heavenly home. Our parishes are a place to find the light of Jesus. And despite the struggles of 2020, I am proud to say that our parishes worked tirelessly to “Be the Light” for thousands of people in our community.

Bishop KulickMore than 100 new ministries were founded at parishes across the Diocese of Greensburg including homebound phone and mail outreach, volunteer cooks who packed and served free takeout meals, clothing, coat and canned good drives, grocery delivery to the homebound, phone trees of prayer intentions, virtual Religious Education and Youth Ministry, Ministry of Hospitality consisting of ushers who ensure socially distant seating and volunteers to greet and cleaning crews to sanitize the church and restrooms after each use, and video ministries that utilize the expertise of volunteer parishioners to stream Mass on YouTube and social media.

What is just as impressive is that more than 2,000 parishioners came to the aid of their parishes and volunteered to assist in these new ministries.

So often during the pandemic, many could not gather to celebrate Mass, but our parishes were determined to stay connected. Today, more than half are now streaming Mass on their websites, YouTube pages or social media, spreading the light of Jesus to those who are able to attend.

All of our parishes either donated items or facilitated financial assistance to those in need totaling nearly a quarter million dollars to help those who were negatively impacted by COVID-19. And all told in 2020, nearly 15,000 people were helped by our parishes during COVID-19.

I am proud of the tremendous work done by our parishes, Catholic Charities, Catholic schools and Diocesan missions and ministries. God’s work can only continue with your help. I ask you to please consider supporting this year’s Diocesan Lenten Appeal and “Be the Light” for your faith community.

May God Bless You,
Larry J. Kulick, JCL
Bishop of Greensburg
